You won't read much about missions in-depth or sometimes missions at all.I don't want to belittle the people that contributed to this book. But consider it a brotherhood, if you weren't part of the brotherhood, the long lists of names and places will mean nothing to you. A book of this magnitude is no easy feat and what former LRRP/Rangers, John LeBrun and Bill Carpenter have achieved is nothing short of monumental in its historical significance. Their book, Historical Occurrences of the LRRP/Rangers of the 1st Cavalry Division during the Vietnam War is an anthology of 430 pages of first-person stories about those who served in the unit from the men who lived it. In truth, it is more than that. It is a more indepth and better look to date at what began in February 1967 as a long range reconnaissance patrol detachment and ended as H Company Ranger in 1972 with the U.S. Army's 1st Cavalry Division. With the book you'll hear the accounts of what it was like serving on small five to six man teams deep in the heart on enemy territory in the voices of those who led, trained, and carried out the often harrowing missions in the Corps areas of operation they patrolled. Scattered throughout the first-person accounts in the book you'll also find a roster of those who served honorably, copies of orders, a map, a duty officer's log, a Christmas menu, and several excellent poems.
